September Log Books
Log Book 1- Tuesday 7th September
Log Book 1- Tuesday 7th September
We made ourselves into a group consisting of three members, Tom Sarah and Emily. We all decided on the genre of the track which we wanted to have for our music video, we decided alternative rock. We needed a track that combined a slow rhythm as well as a fast to convey our ability to shoot at different paces with various shots. We all spilt up and tried to find a suitable song.
Log Book 2- Wednesday 8th September
We brought our song choices together and expressed our views on each. Making sure we all had an equal opinion. We got it down to three tracks which were Brand New’ Sowing Season’ Bombay Bicycle Club’ Always like this’ and Drake ‘Find Your love’. We decided to use Brand New so we could convey more emotion and it was the most suitable to our chosen genre
Log Book 3- Friday 10th September
We started to plan ideas for our video, listening to the track over and over we started to picture a scenario that could go with the music, We decided to combine narrative and performance based video to make it more interesting and this also parallels to the conventions of alternative rock videos.
Log Book 4- Monday 13th September
We gathered ourselves together to have a group meeting and started to decide how many characters we would like in our video. We decided on one main young boy and also checked with the suitable actor that they would be involved in our video. The story we wanted to portray was an alcohol addiction as it would relate to the lyrics. Lyrics such as ‘Was losing all my friends, was losing them to drinking and driving’ and other emotional based lyrics. We also printed off the lyrics and wrote the seconds each lyric started and stopped.
Log Book 5- Tuesday 14th September
We produced a letter to send to Brand New (The band) to ask for permission to use their track. As well as this we began on our storyboards, we got up to shot 15. We realised the storyboard would take a while to create as we had only reached 37 seconds.
Log Book 6- Wednesday 15th September
Due to the storyboard taking longer than we expected on our first sit down as a group, we decided to agree on the shots and split it up equally so the process of making them wasn’t as long. Making our group hold time efficiency and good group work, as we checked each other’s shots before making them official.
Log Book 7 Thursday 16th September
We carried on with storyboards; we managed to get up to shot 50 even with Sarah’s absence. However she managed to do two shots despite being ill, pure dedication.
Log Book 8 : Friday 17th September
Emily made the mistake of taking home all the shots (and Sarah’s illness) so with Sarah and Emily gone; Tom had to go it alone. He managed to get up to shot 80 which was 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
Log Book 9: Tuesday 21st September
We completed our storyboard it was a great relief as the storyboard is extremely time consuming. However, all worth the effort as we have a completed music video on paper!
Log Book 10: Thursday 23rd September
We began to film our storyboard. Which took longer than we first expected as we realised we needed a steady hand. We then captured our footage which took 10 minutes, we then realised we didn’t properly capture it, so another 10 minutes was taken to capture it again.
Log Book 11: Friday 24th September
Tom began editing the storyboard and getting familiar with the tools such as cut and stretch, making sure it was in time with our storyboard. Emily and Sarah worked on their blogs making sure the group’s work was up to date.
Log Book 12: 28th September
Tom edited the storyboard up to 1.30 while Sarah and Emily planned the shooting schedule and researched gigs that were on up in London in which we could film gig shots and some of the street shots. We found a band named Young Rebel set who could provide us with a perfect gig atmosphere for our Music Video
Log Book 13: 30th September
Editing was completed of storyboard and we gathered as a group to watch it back, making sure it was on time and if any mistakes were made that needed to be rectified. There seemed to be only minor adjustments
October Logbooks
Log Book 14: 1St October
We made our main character, Joffy learn the words to our chosen song today so he could do the lip syncing task. We then had to wait for groups to finish using the hall where we were going to film. We also then chose the section of the lyrics we wanted to have lip synced.
Log Book 5th October (Double Lesson)
In these lessons we edited the lip syncing video and took photos of our main character Joffy to create a mini portfolio which would reflect his image. Then edited the photos.
Log Book 11th October
Emily and Sarah created the MySpace account and set up a lot of the profile, writing who the influences were and naming the band members for fans to look at. Tom captured some of the filming we had done and starting to sort out what shots we would use and what ones we could discard of.
Log Book 19th October
Tom and Sarah went to Brentwood High Street to film the scene of the main character and his girlfriend sitting together in one of the flashbacks, this shot is only 7 seconds long and we are going to speed up the people that walk past so it looks like a lot of time has passed and they are a very happy couple, this will also add a look of professionalism to our video; we filmed for about 5minutes so we had enough footage and so that there was enough people to speed up as it wasn’t very busy at the time we went.. Emily continued to edit our MySpace page to make more use of our time as a group.
Log Book 20th October
Tom continued to edit the music video with mine and Emily’s input to make sure it was looking good for now; this takes a long time to get it perfect so this took up the whole hour of our lesson. So while Tom was busy doing that Sarah and Emily made up some events to go on the MySpace page and also edited the page so it looks more like a bands page.
Log Book 21st October
We all met at the local gig venue to film our band playing, we were able to get a variety of shots with lighting that enabled clear footage. As we knew the lighting director we had a chance to experiment with lights to get the best effects. Sarah who filmed most of the footage had a near death experiment from nearly being dragged into the mosh pit of angry teenagers. However the footage was well worth taking as it demonstrated a variety of performance based shots.
Log Book 26th October
We all got together within the half term and held a group meeting. Analysing the remaining shots that needed to be taken bearing in mind the weather conditions worsening as the months go on. This could affect our shots in a major way by it being too dark to film.
November Log Books
Log Book 2nd November
We took turns in editing the band shots into our project, giving analysis on how we thought the shots moulded into the music. We also edited our Myspace and updated upcoming gig events as well as accepting friends/fans.
